TV antennas are devices that receive signals from broadcasting towers so that we have programs to watch on our television. Antennas mean that we can get our programming through the air instead of through wires like other television services. There are two kinds of TV antennas: indoor and outdoor.
In general, outdoor antennas are better than indoor antennas because they are placed on higher ground, which means that the signal travels through fewer obstacles. It is also easier to turn the antenna in the broadcasting station's direction if it's on the roof. Outdoor antennas are also larger, and better able to pick up signals.
Unfortunately, not everyone can get an outdoor antenna. There are places that do not allow it, and there are also places where outdoor antennas are not efficient. A person living in an apartment won't be able to put up an outdoor antenna, for example.
An option is to use an indoor antenna to pick up signals. While outdoor antennas are the best to use, indoor antennas also have their uses, especially when you can't use outdoor antennas. Indoor antennas tend to be smaller, and there are varieties that are easy to move around the house.
If you are looking for the best indoor antenna, try to get one that is compatible not only with your television set, but also with your cable company. There are some antennas that cannot pick up certain kinds of signals, or some cable companies with very particular frequencies.
In general, UHF antennas are not very effective. They tend to be hard to adjust, so they pick up few signals and a lot of ghosts. VHF/UHF is usually decent as long as it has a rod antenna, or what we call the monopole. UHF antennas also get better when a two bay tie with a reflector screen is used.
